Ryuzo Yanagimachi’s Kyoto Prize introduction video

This video provided by Inamori Foundation introduces Ryuzo Yanagimachi, recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from Hokkaido University, who was awarded the 2023 Kyoto Prize in Advanced Technology. The Kyoto Prize is an international award established by the Inamori Foundation to honor individuals who have made significant contributions in the fields of science and technology, as well as arts and philosophy.

 

Dr. Yanagimachi’s award-worthy achievements include the “Contributions to the Elucidation of Fertilization Mechanisms and the Establishment of Microinsemination Technology.” His notable contributions to the livestock industry and the development of human ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) through artificial insemination are highly regarded.

 

Yanagimachi received his D.Sc. in animal embryology at Hokkaido University in 1960. In 2002, Hokkaido University conferred the Honorary Doctorate to Dr. Yanagimachi (then professor at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa) for his contributions to the advancement of education and research at Hokkaido University through research exchanges with faculty and graduate students, international exchanges, and active lecture activities.
