UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a national mountain bike competition entitled Rector of the UNS National Cross Country Cup MTB Competition #1. The event that will take place for two days on June 18-19, 2022, is also part of a series of events for the 46th UNS Anniversary, organized by PMPA Ajusta Brata Nature Lover Students Association, Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS in collaboration with the Indonesian Sport Bicycle Association (ISSI). For two days, the participants will compete at the Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) Gunung Bromo UNS, Mojogedang, Karanganyar Regency.

Maulana Al-Ghifari, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, said that the UNS National Rector Cup XC MTB Competition #1 is a mountain bike racing competition that focuses on the XC (Cross Country) competition. “This competition is open for the general public, both athletes and beginners, under 5 (five) categories, junior male for 17-18 years old, male students for 17-22 years old, open male category for 19-34 years old, ‘Master A’ category for 35-45 years old, and ‘Master B’ for 46 years old and above,” he explained, Friday (17/6/2022).

He added that participants in this competition came from various provinces in Indonesia, such as Bali, West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Sumatra, and Yogyakarta. In the entire category, there are 100 participants who participated in this Rector Cup from various bike clubs in Indonesia. “This event also has a positive impact on the surrounding community because it can be used as a means in developing local MSMEs potential, one of them is the Community for Fire Security (MPA),” he added.

Dr. Ir. Lobes Herdiman, M.T., the coach of PMPA Ajusta Brata, said that this competition aims to channel Indonesian citizens’ interest and talents in the Mountain Bike Cross-Country Games and to promote KHDTK UNS. “This competition is expected to hone the skills and to find qualified national-level cycling athletes, especially in the Cross-Country sports field. Additionally, it also provides space to appreciate cycling athletes and can increase the number of visitors to KHDTK Gunung Bromo UNS,” he said. Humas UNS
